Exploring the Frozen Ever After New Animatronics: A Complete Guide to Epcot’s Norway Pavilion

Hey, bestie! Frozen Ever After has officially reopened at Epcot following its refurbishment in February 2026, and the updates are absolutely magical. The enhancements include freshened show lighting, visual elements, and improvements to the guest experience. If you’ve been following along, you know the ride was closed briefly for some much-needed TLC. There’s a lot of excitement for what’s coming to Frozen Ever After, as these new features and updates are just the beginning of future improvements guests can look forward to. Today, we are spending the morning in the Norway Pavilion to see the new animatronics, grab some iconic snacks, and dive into the Norse mythology that inspired the world of Arendelle.

I’m Melissa, your Disney bestie, here to make your next Disney day a little lighter and a little brighter. Grab your “patient pants”—it’s a busy day at Epcot, but it is going to be worth every second!

The Big Reveal: New Animatronics at Frozen Ever After

The biggest buzz surrounding the reopening is the upgrade to the animatronics. Previously, the characters featured “projected” faces—digital animations mapped onto the physical figures. While innovative at the time, the new updates have replaced these with completely sculpted faces. The new Audio Animatronics include updated figures of Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff.

What’s New?

  • Lifelike Realism: The technology used is similar to the world-class figures found in Hong Kong Disneyland’s “World of Frozen.” The enhancements to Frozen Ever After were inspired by international versions of the attraction, such as those in Hong Kong Disneyland, which showcased newer technology and set a benchmark for Disneyland parks worldwide.

  • Fluid Movement: The updated Audio Animatronics are part of a new generation with incredibly fluid movements and lifelike facial features. Elsa’s wrist and other parts are carefully held and supported to enable these realistic, smooth motions. Imagineering also modified the necks of the Audio Animatronics to accommodate changes in the heads for improved movement.

  • Advanced Technology: The new Audio Animatronics feature advanced technology, including all-electric motors and 3D printing, which were groundbreaking in the original Frozen Ever After attraction.

  • The “Glow”: Anna and Elsa literally look like they are glowing. Seeing Elsa in her ice palace before the “Let It Go” drop is a breathtaking experience with these new physical features.

  • Immersive Experience: The new Audio Animatronics are designed to create a more immersive experience for guests, making them feel as if the characters have stepped off the screen.

  • Show Control System Updates: The refurbishment also included updates to the show control system, further enhancing the overall ride experience.

Beating the Long Lines

When I arrived, the posted wait time was 95 minutes, with the line wrapping all the way back to the China Pavilion. However, Disney wait times can be inflated! I started my timer at the back of the line:

  • 15 minutes in: I could finally see the Norway Pavilion.

  • 26 minutes in: I was walking through the front doors.

  • 44 minutes in: I was boarding my boat!

The average wait time for Frozen Ever After at EPCOT is typically around 50 to 66 minutes, but on busy days, it can exceed 135 minutes. Wait times can vary significantly throughout the day, with shorter waits in the early morning and later evening. Lightning Lane availability can affect wait times, especially during peak hours, and using Lightning Lane can significantly reduce your wait time. The wait times for Frozen Ever After are often reported through the My Disney Experience app, which provides real-time updates. Data is often presented in a table or chart for easier understanding, showing trends by week, month, or even year. Riding Frozen Ever After early in the day or during off-peak times, such as weekdays or non-holiday periods, can help minimize wait times. Guests should consider dining at nearby restaurants to enjoy a meal while waiting for their turn on Frozen Ever After.

Pro Tip: Don’t let a 90+ minute wait scare you off immediately. Sometimes you luck out, and a 44-minute wait for a major reopening is a total win.

Exploring the Norway Pavilion Queue

One of the best parts of this ride is the immersive queue. As you walk through, you aren’t just waiting; you’re entering the story of Arendelle’s “Official Summer Snow Day.” Guests will notice:

  • Kristoff’s Gear: Look for the ice-hauling tools, chisels, and picks used by Kristoff and Sven.

  • Oaken’s Tokens: You’ll pass by Wandering Oaken’s Trading Post (and Sauna!), where you can hear Oaken himself through the door.

  • Arendelle at Night: The indoor portion of the queue mimics a nighttime celebration in the village, complete with glowing lanterns.

A Taste of Norway: Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe

You can’t visit Norway without stopping by the Kringla Bakeri Og Kafe. After the ride, I needed a little pick-me-up, and Norway has some of the best snacks in the World Showcase.

The Famous School Bread ($5.49)

If there is one snack you must try, it’s the School Bread (Skolebrød). It is a fluffy sweet roll filled with rich vanilla custard and dipped in shredded coconut.

  • The Verdict: It’s massive! The custard is creamy but not overly sugary, and the hint of cardamom in the bread gives it a traditional Norwegian flare. It’s a Disney classic for a reason.

Joffrey’s Coffee: Norwegian Style ($5.99)

To pair with the bread, I grabbed the Joffrey’s Cold Brew with Sweet Cream.

  • The Verdict: It’s bold and refreshing. A quick stir blends the sweet cream perfectly into the cold brew, making it the ideal caffeine boost for a long park day.

Hidden Gems: Stave Church Gallery

Tucked away in the front of the pavilion is the Stave Church, a stunning replica of traditional Norwegian wooden architecture. Inside, you’ll find the “Gods of the Vikings” exhibit.

This exhibit explores the Norse mythology that influenced both history and popular culture (like Marvel!). You can learn about:

  • Odin: The ruler of the gods.

  • Thor: The protector god (did you know “Thursday” is named after Thor?).

  • Freya: The goddess of love and beauty (the namesake for “Friday”).

  • Loki: The god of mischief.

The intricate woodworking on the church doors is a masterpiece in itself—definitely don’t walk past this “hidden gem” without stepping inside!

Royal Greetings: Meeting Anna and Elsa

No trip to Norway is complete without visiting Royal Sommerhus, the sisters’ summer home. The queue here is adorable, filled with childhood portraits of the princesses and their parents.

During my visit, we had a very important discussion about chocolate (their favorite food, obviously!).

  • Anna’s Tip: Chocolate-covered carrots (Sven’s favorite!).

  • Elsa’s Tip: Frozen chocolate or chocolate ice cream.

The sisters are so charming, and the PhotoPass opportunity inside provides a beautiful backdrop for your vacation memories.

Shopping in The Fjording

Finally, we ended the day browsing The Fjording, the main gift shop. It’s more than just Frozen toys; you can find:

  • Helly Hansen Gear: High-quality Norwegian outerwear.

  • Laila Fragrances: Clean, fresh scents by Geir Ness.

  • Traditional Trolls: Don’t forget to take a photo with the giant carved troll inside!

  • Epcot Reindeer Ears: I spotted some adorable light-up ears for $39.99 featuring Spaceship Earth and Sven.

Final Thoughts

The updates to Frozen Ever After have breathed new life into an already beautiful ride. Between the lifelike new faces of our favorite characters, the delicious School Bread, and the rich history in the Stave Church, the Norway Pavilion remains a top-tier destination in Epcot.
